Munson Healthcare Prepares for Severe Winter Weather

Munson Healthcare is prepared for the forecasted severe weather.

It’s important to note that healthcare workers are considered essential workers and we need to be able to care for our patients. Staff on-call or scheduled to work a shift at an MHC hospital or clinic should make plans now to ensure they are able to work.

Healthcare Team Communication

As the storm unfolds, we will be keeping you informed in the following ways:

  • The Compass
  • Medical Staff News
  • Incident Commands, if Emergency Management Teams activate

Additionally, please review your department-specific emergency plans and look to your department and unit leadership for specific instructions to prepare for the potential severe weather.

Where to Direct Patients for Updates

  • Information about the impacts on our healthcare system will be posted on our Closures and Modified Hours webpage, which is available at the top of every page of munsonhealthcare.org.
  • We will also be posting updates to social media and issuing statements to reporters as needed.

Finally, it is also important to ensure that your homes and families are prepared for the possibility of power outages and impassable roads that can come with severe snow and wind conditions.

Things to think about include:

  • Having enough food, medicine, and potentially stored water at home to go through the weekend in the event of loss of power.
  • For those who must be on the road, keep an emergency kit in your vehicle that includes a shovel, blanket, electric jump cables, food, water, cell phone charger, flashlight, and extra batteries. And make sure your vehicle’s gas tank is full.
  • Ensure you always have your Munson Healthcare badge with you and not at the hospital — in the event of road conditions that would lead to law enforcement closures to non-essential personnel.
