Beginning January 2015, Munson Healthcare implemented ICD-10 early adoption as a way to focus on clinical documentation improvement and test revised outpatient order forms and processes.
UPDATE: ICD-10 Medical Necessity Tips
ICD-10 is here and we wish to thank all of you who have been sending ICD-10 codes that meet medical necessity.
TIP 1: We have noticed a trend in some tests where the codes that would have met medical necessity prior to Oct. 1 do not pass now. The biggest trend we have seen is with the Ultrasound Vascular and Arterial Studies, including:

TIP 2: These common diagnoses need more specificity to pass medical necessity:Peripheral Vascular Disease
- What is the condition? Atherosclerosis, Atheroembolism, Non-pressure ulcer, other
- Does the patient also have Claudication?
- Claudication will not pass if it is the only diagnosis provided
